The Daily Seal: Aquidneck Island’s Feathery Friend
Kate Watterson, Daily Seal Student Writer
Do you know the Gravy the Turkey, infamous for hanging out at the Green End intersections at Valley Road and Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown. Some people hate him, some people love him, and some people don’t even know who he is. If you do know who Gravy is, this is the article for you.
A quick search on Google will provide you with an in-depth look at who Gravy is, and how he has become so famous within the local community. He even has his own Instagram account, @gravytheturkey !!!
Gravy hangs out at the intersection on Valley Road and Aquidneck Avenue in Middletown. He ignores the beeping and traffic, and waddles along. Mind you, that this turkey has caused very big traffic issues and crises.
Jay Manning, works at the Norman Bird Sanctuary, spoke kindly about the turkey and he stated that, “While waiting to take a left turn on Green End from Aquidneck Avenue, I watched him wait patiently for the traffic to clear before using the crosswalk to cross the road.”
Some people feel terrible for the turkey and want him to be more cautious about his time in traffic, and others are downright annoyed because Gravy slows them down and they NEED to get to their destination.
So, why are Gravy and his buddies doing this? Are they stupid? Stubborn? Or maybe just clueless. Whether we like it or not, we will have to live with the turkey crossing the road.
Gravy was recently injured in a devastating crash, but is doing well due to the care and love of local veterinary officials.
I’m not sure about you, but I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing Gravy on the road this spring!
